Fact sheet on Violence against Women in South Eastern Europe
25-05-2006

We offer to your attention the Fact sheet on Violence against Women in South Eastern Europe that was presented on3 May 2006 at the European Parliament, in Brussels during the launch of the report: On the Road to the EU: Monitoring Equal Opportunities for Women and Men in South Eastern Europe

This fact sheet is the first outcome and a part of the Violence Against Women Monitoring Survey of the Open Society Institute’s Network Women’s Program (NWP), based on the Council of Europe’s Recommendation Rec(2002)5 of the Committee of Ministers to member states on the protection of women against violence.

While this fact sheet focuses on violence against women in South Eastern Europe the full Violence against Women Monitoring Survey and the fact sheets that will be prepared as its outcome include country reports from other Central and Eastern European countries including Bulgaria. The Center of Women’s Studies and Polices is the Bulgarian partner and monitor under this project, who collected and processed the information for the survey on violence against women in Bulgaria.

During the above mentioned launch the Vice Chair of the FEMM Committee of the European Parliament invited NWP to present the VAW Monitoring Report in a separate meeting in the parliament. NWP also have a preliminary invitation to present the Report in Strasbourg, during a conference organized by the Council of Europe in November, launching the Pan-European campaign against violence against women.

We will keep you informed about the Bulgarian fact sheet and the future activities under the project!
