In order to assess the needs and interests of women activists from ethnic minorities in Bulgaria the CWSP organized the First National Meeting of Women Leaders from Different Ethnic Groups in Bulgaria in the beginning of 2004. Representatives of Jewish, Turkish, Romani, Armenian and Bulgarian non-governmental organizations took part in this unique event. Guests of honour were Minister Filiz Husmenova, Chairperson of the National Council on Ethnical and Demographic Issues, H.E. Mrs. Sevda Sevan, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia in the Republic of Bulgaria, Mrs. Dana Benvenisti-Gabay, second secretary with the Israeli Embassy in Bulgaria.

The conference discussed the changes in Bulgarian legislation concerning the rights and status of women in the context of the European Union accession process and was designed as a pilot training for representatives of the organizations present at the conference.
