Third International Forum on Women Entrepreneurship

On the 15-16 November 2013, in the "Sheraton Sofia Hotel Balkan", Sofia was hosted the Third International Forum on Women Entrepreneurship, organized by the Bulgarian Association of Women Entrepreneurs (BAWE) with the financial support of the Executive Agency for Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises.

This year's forum focuses on the importance of promoting women entrepreneurship in the countries of the Danube region and the opportunity to exchange contacts and experiences among businesswomen from different countries. The forum was opened by:

Dijana Bezjak, Assistant Minister for EU Programmes, Bilateral Assistance Programmes and other International Projects, Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Crafts, Croatia
Mrs. Anna Yaneva, Deputy Minister of Economy and Energy
Mrs. Rositsa Yankova, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Policy
Mr. Evgenii Ivanov, Executive Director of the Agency for Small and Medium Enterprises
Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov, Chairperson of Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry
Marion Volk – Vice Chair and founder of BPW Danube Net

BPW Danube Net is the network for business women in the Danube countries. The organization is founded in 2005 in order to give more opportunities for exchanging ideas, points of view and information in business and culture. In 2006 the foundation ceremony of the BPW Danube Net took place in Budapest in the frame of the first businesswomen forum. Other meeting are being held in Hungery, Croatia, Romania, Germany, Serbia and Austria.

The program of the 3rd international forum consists of four panels:
Panel 1: The Policy of the EU on the role of women in the promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises
Panel 2: Analysis of the development of women entrepreneurship in the Danube region – challenges and opportunities
Panel 3: The role of Danube net in the development of the economy in the region – sharing of good practices and new opportunities
Panel 4: Cultural exchange – Intercultural dialoge

The presentation of Mrs. Diana Bezjyak from Croatia enabled forum participants to get acquainted with the internet platform CEECEL, which has greatly contributed to the promotion of training in entrepreneurship and cooperates with a number of European schools.Ms. Bezjyak said she hopes to see more women entrepreneurs, and not just in the field of services, where most of the ladies are engaged at the moment.
Mrs. Arzu Özal, President of BPW Turkey, shared ideas about the need for change in the laws relating to the activities of women entrepreneurs. She said that currently in Turkey there are 48,000 potential entrepreneurs who are trained in various programs to be competitive in the labor market.
Dr. Alida Perkov of Croatia, President of BPW Danube Net 2009-2012 and 2013-2016, stressed the crucial role of NGOs in creating more opportunities for the development of women's entrepreneurship. It was interesting for the participants to know that of all the European countries, only in Croatia women in business are paid more than men.
In her speech, the representative of the association "Save the woman" , Varna described in details the organization and offered intriguing ideas for cooperation between associations in Bulgaria, which support businesswomen.
