The Centre for Gender Studies at the European Humanities University organized an international conference “Capitalism and/or Patriarchy? Gender in Post-Soviet Space”. The conference took place on June 22-24, 2006 at Vilnius University, where the exiled European Humanities University has been working since 2004. The papers presented by more than 40 scholars from 14 countries of East and Central Europe and North America were focused on gender and post-Soviet social stratification, nation-building, and everyday transformation in post-communist countries. A collective volume, resulting from the conference, is expected to be published both in Russian and English.
