The National Program for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings was approved on January 26 at the session of the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, headed by the Deputy Prime Minister Plamen Panayotov. The program envisages the establishment of administrative structures, increasing the knowledge of the society on the problem with trafficking in human beings and the mechanisms for its limitation. The measures are focused on protection and support of victims of trafficking as well as on creating a working mechanism for research, analysis and statistical reporting of human trafficking data. The Program also envisages improving the international co-operation for prevention and countering of trafficking in human beings and organizing information, awareness and educational campaigns aimed at potential victims of trafficking.

The measures within the National Program will be initially supported by the USAID with 146 000 USD. The first measures will be launched in February.
